Eindrücke werden immer wieder von Erinnerungen aus der Heimat überlagert, sodass die Stadt stets durch diese Folie aus vergangenen Bildern aufscheint. Die Autoren zeigen eine deutliche Hinwendung zur jüdischen Kulturtradition, die anhand von Intertextverweisen zur Hebräischen Bibel und zum Midrasch offenbar wird. Die gewahrte Distanz der Protagonisten zu ihrer Umwelt lässt sich eindrucksvoll anhand der narrativen Struktur ihrer Texte ablesen.
